Welcome to Amherst

Located to the north of Buffalo, Amherst is a large suburb in the the Northtowns. Depending on which zip code you choose, you can find yourself in one of these communities:
  • Williamsville (town or village)
  • Getzville
  • Eggertsville
  • Snyder
  • Swormville
  • East Amherst
With around 130,000 residents, the town offers a dense suburban atmosphere where most people own their homes. It also boasts numerous restaurants, coffee shops and parks making it a great place for young professionals and retirees alike.

Life in Amherst

There are plenty of public and private golf courses spread across numerous parks. In the summer, residents can also enjoy music on main street and farmers markets.

Amherst Schools

One of Amherst's three school districts, Amherst Central Schools, is a diverse district with around 3,000 students spread across 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high school. Its academics, music, athletics and character education programs have all earned the district consistent state and national recognition.
Located in East Amherst, Williamsville Central School District is a highly regarded public school district. It has 6 elementary schools, 4 middle schools and 3 high schools, serving roughly 10,000 students with a student-teacher ratio of 12 to1. The district's schools have consistently ranked among the best performing locally and across New York state. Sweet Home Central School District serves about 4,000 students in seven schools including one high school, one middle school, and four elementary schools. With a 12:1 Student-Teacher Ratio, the district promotes a strong sense of community while providing strong academics and numerous opportunities for athletics and clubs.
